Tyra at Tessera Design, a Milwaukee graphic design company, wanted a crisp, clean web site design that was not visually heavy and showcased their graphic design work in a positive light. She also wanted a site that was easy to update and did not require a call back to the web developer, me, to get routine changes and additions accomplished. We used Tyra’s design and integrated a Wordpress blog for the News section so Tyra can keep clients and prospective clients up to date on work and to provide samples of her work.
The header images come from Tyra’s own travels and lend a personalized touch to the site.
To date Tyra has been actively using the design news section to add content almost weekly and has received numerous compliments on the clean look and ease of use tesseradesignwi.com provides.

I picked up some work through Joe at 3rd Coast Ventures for Tech Financial Services. TechFin offers machine tool leasing services to companies running machines like CNC lathes, CNC mills, CNC Machining Centers, robots, lasers and other capital intensive equipment used in the machine tool industry. TechFin works with both dealers selling machine tools and end-users who need to finance their machines.
UPDATE: Our dear friend, Denis, owner of Alpine Import Auto Specialists, passed away from stomach cancer. It was great working with you, Denis, we will miss you.
I’ve been working with Denis at Alpine Import Auto Specialists to develop an easy to use site that he can update regularly. To me, Wordpress was an obvious solution. Denis is a casual computer user but the easy to use back end of Wordpress allows him to add content in a timely fashion. For many small business owners this is the main need when considering how to build a website.
Another area that Wordpress helps is because many small business owners don’t know exactly how they will end up using their website. With a Wordpress base we can configure it to meet the needs of a particular client. I particularly like the fact that we can do it on the fly and all the info we post is still there even when we make major changes to the structure of the site. Having a website that can grow with your needs, and easily too boot, is a real plus.
By using a very basic theme we can work on the structure and functionality before committing to a more individual design. In addition, the ability to add photos to the site can really dress up even the most basic Wordpress theme.
I recently built a Wordpress powered site for friends in Fort Collins, Colorado. Their business, Garden Thyme, is one of the premier landscape gardening companies in Northern Colorado. The need for a site that the two principle people in the company could update regularly led us to a Wordpress powered site. The new version 2.1 has some nice features that take the traditional blog style site and empower it to deliver a more business oriented need while still maintaining ease of use.
I also installed Gallery 2 and integrated it into the Wordpress template. Showing the quality of work is important to the folks at Garden Thyme and Gallery2 is another great program that is easy to use and, in this case, great because of the ease with which it can be integrated into the Wordpress site.
